Allahabad University, Allahabad Department of Statistics The Statistics unit came into existence in 1968 as a part of Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The unit really became functional with the appointment of three regular teachers of Statistics in 1974 under the esteemed leadership of outstanding statistician and researcher in the field of Bayesian Reliability Analysis, Professor Samir K. Bhattacharya. Professor Bhattacharya was the first Professor of Statistics, who became the Head of combined Department of Mathematics and Statistics during the period 1989-1995. On August 21, 2000, the department was separated from mathematics with Dr. G.S. Pandey as the first Head of Department of Statistics and Dr. Anoop Chaturvedi and Dr. S. Lalitha and as other faculty members. Presntly Dr. Anoop Chaturvedi is the Head of the Department since February 2008. The faculty members are pursuing research in the areas of reliability theory, econometrics, Bayesian statistics, time series, order statistics, quality control, survey sampling and sequential analysis. The faculty members are doing research work in collaboration with the members of several Indian and foreign universities/research institutes. The department also extends technical assistance to the researchers of other departments, such as Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Botany, Economics, Education, Psychology, Medical Sciences, Zoology, etc. Department of Statistics Allahabad University, Allahabad Uttar Pradesh India
