Koneru Lakshmaiah College of Engineering now K L University is an engineering college located in the Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh, India. The college is on a 18 hectares site near the Buckingham Canal, about 8 km from Vijayawada in Guntur District. Once affiliated to Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, the college was granted autonomy in 2006. It became a Deemed University in May 2008, and is now known as Koneru Lakshmaiah University. The college is recognized by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. The college is certified by ISO 9001 - 2000., The college was established in 1980 by the late Sri Koneru Lakshmaiah and Sri K.Satyanarayana at Vaddeswaram. The late Sri K.Lakshmaiah (graduate of BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore), realizing the scarcity of local engineers, came up with the idea of establishing an engineering college. The Secretary and Correspondent Sri K. Satyanarayana (also a graduate from BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore) has since taken over the reins as Chairman. The college got 75% placements during 2003-2009. The College started with four conventional disciplines in 1980. It now offers nine programmes in the undergraduate courses and five programmes in post-graduate courses {M.Sc Computer Science, MCA and M Tech}. KLC is the first engineering college in Andhra Pradesh to start an Industrial & Production Engineering branch in undergraduate courses and having NBA accreditation for Biotechnology. It has a total plinth area of 38045 m². The college has three computer centers catering to the computing needs of the students and staff., The Institute is a member of Confederation of Indian Industry(CII) which gives an edge to it in the Industry-Institution interaction. The Institute has signed MoUs with various national and multinational industries which helps the students to visit the industries and get practical experience. The Institute has a strong Industrial Relations and Placements Department with offices in various cities in India. It looks after the Industry-Institution Interaction and placements. Many companies have established "Virtual Industry" on campus which allow the students of the Institute to do the industry projects within the campus. Full semester industrial training is made mandatory for the students through Practice School.
