Andhra University, Visakhapatnam Department of Education The Department of Education was established in 1972-73 basing on the National Policy on Education which stated that all Indian Universities ought to establish the Departments of Education. The M.A. Education course was started with a view of producing educational administrators and planners as per the G.O.M.S.No.1353, Edn.16-12-1981, In due course, the M.A.Education course objective was changed with the pressure of students because of non professional nature. Then this course was redesigned and included pedagogical aspects on the direction of Directorate of School Education Government of Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile, NCTE was established as a statutory body in 1993 and came into force from 1995, August, 17th to bring about coordinated and planned development of the teacher education programmes in India for improving the standards of school education and teacher education. In order to maintain professional standards of teaching profession as stipulated by the professional body NCTE, the Department of Education, Andhra University, as per the Executive Committee Resolution No. L2 [3] M.A.Edn. /2008, Dt.25-03-2008 discontinued M.A. Education and started M.Ed. in 2008-09.The two departments of Adult Education and Special Education were merged into the Department of Education vide Proceedings of the Vice Chancellor No. L.II (Supdt. / Merging of departments dated 17-03-2008 Progress: The Department of Education, Andhra University has been putting their best efforts to enhance the potentiality of the teachers and special teachers, teacher educators and special teacher educators and educational plannera & administrators. It offers the courses of B.Ed. General, M.Ed. General in IASE, by MHRD, B.Ed Special, M.Ed. Special [VI], in Special Education Programme by RCI, M.A., Adult Education and M.Phil/Ph.D in Education.
