Anna University, Chennai Department of Electricals And Electronics Engineering The Department has been a pioneer in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, with core Research and Development in the field of Power Apparatus and systems for many decades. The department is part of the team developing the micro-satellite (ANUSAT) sponsored by ISRO. The department is recognized under NaMPET and received grants for Power Electronics related research and applications. The department has gone through stages of COSIST, DSA phases I, II, III programs of UGC. The grants received of approximately Rs.1.5 crores from the research funding agencies are effectively utilized for Post Graduate education and creating research facilities. Recently the department is elevated to the status of "Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS)" on Power Apparatus and Embedded Systems by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The Department offers one UG programme in full time and one in part time (for practicing engineers), six PG programmes in full time and three in part time. Research programmes as M.S and Ph.D in full time and part time are offered in the various PG specializations of Electrical Engineering. The part time external research students belong to community from various colleges, industries and sponsored candidates. 60 students in the UG and 30 students in each PG specialization are admitted every year through single window admission system of the University. The PG and research specializations of the department are Power Systems, High Voltage, Power Electronics and Drives, Control and Instrumentation, Embedded System Technology and Electric Drives and Embedded Control. The class rooms are equipped with the latest audio visual equipments. The Department has more than ten well equipped, state of the art, laboratories in the major areas of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and extends sufficient Computing and library facilities. The department has a strong Industry-University interaction and also offers testing and consultancy services. The Faculty and students participate in National and International conferences and publish more than 50 papers every year in reputed journals and International conferences. In order to improve the quality of man power, periodic training programmes are being conducted by inviting eminent personalities from Industry and Academic Institutions and sponsoring the Faculty for various Faculty Development Programmes. The Department has instituted “Appadurai Chair for Power system” for providing training for the working engineers of TNEB and a Chairperson and a Research Associate from TNEB are engaged in the department to strengthen the research tie-up. The students are encouraged to conduct Intra-departmental symposium “RIPPLES” and National Symposium “WAVES” in order to enrich their knowledge with the latest advancements. The Department has a “Hobby Centre” created for the students where, the lab facilities are provided for the students to try their innovative R&D ideas.
