Anna University of Technology, Chennai The Department of Aerospace Engineering was established in 1949 as faculty of Aeronautics in the MIT Campus, for furthering the cause of Aerospace Research in the new born nation. It is the first department offering undergraduate (UG) programme in Aeronautical Engineering in India. Till date, the Department has been leading the way in propelling indigenous research in aerospace field. This was made a reality through the competent, devoted and efficient faculty and highly sophisticated state – of – art laboratory facilities. The department runs one full time UG, three full time post graduate (PG), one part time UG and one part time PG programmes. The department also offers MS(By research) and Ph.D research programs in various areas related to Aerospace Engineering. Courses Offered : => B.E Aeronautical Engineering => B.E Mechanical Engineering => M.E Aeronautical Engineering => M.E Avionics => M.E Aerospace Technology => M.E Mechanical Engineering Facility : => Aerodynamics Laborartory => Aero Engine Material Characterization => Aero Engine and Propulsion => UAV Integration La => Structures Labaratory => Avionics System Lab Research : The Department has research programs leading to M.S and Ph.D Degrees. The faculty in the Department concentrates on three major field of Aeronautical Engineering viz., Aerodynamics, Aircraft Structures and Propulsion. The Department has the potential to carry out research in Composite Structures, Computational Mechanics, Non – Destructive Testing. In recent past Department has taken up several projects from various funding agency and the details of which are given. Also the faculty has carried out several projects through Centre for Aerospace Research. The Department staff has collaborative research with Prof. Yukio Tamura, Tokyo Polytechnic University through J.S.P.S (Japan Society for Promotion of Science), Government of Japan. Also the Department has taken steps in having collaborative research activities and staff student exchange programmes with Tokyo Polytechnic University, Japan and University of Stuttgart, Germany. To improve more research activities, a Chair in Memory of Prof. K.A.V.Pandalai, a former Professor and Head, Department of Aerospace Engineering, has been created in the year 2000 with the financial support from Aeronautical Research and Development Board (AR&DB) Ministry of Defence. Under the chair a number of research activities related to Defence and Space Programmes are being taken up.
