Department of Economics
The Department of Economics supported by the UGC under SAP-DRS-1 has made long strides in imparting niceties of knowledge to students, and in the last five years two innovative programs, M.A., Applied Economics, and M.B.A., Environmental Management, are the proud additions in teaching. During 2007-2012 11 research projects have been undertaken at an estimate cost of Rs.76.50 lakhs. Effective research is done in the department, and 74 M.Phils and 50 Ph.Ds have been produced by the department so far. Colloquium, national seminars, U.G.C workshop and such other metes numbering 8 are a feather in the cap of the department. One hundred and forty three research papers have been published in national and international journals. Eight of the members have won honours and awards, and the academic spirit will continue in the future also. The department of sociology was started in 1954 under the stewardship of Dr.(Miss) M.Cornelus, a well known social scientist.
