Historically, a large proportion of CAT applicants are engineers, but the exam itself does not officially favor any stream. The QA section may seem comfortable for candidates with strong mathematical backgrounds; however, the level of mathematics is primarily up to Class 10. Moreover, many IIMs provide diversity weightage for non-engineering academic backgrounds to ensure balanced classroom representation. Therefore, candidates from commerce, arts, and science streams have equal opportunities if well-prepared.
