How is negative marking applied in GATE?

Negative marking is applied only to Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). For 1-mark MCQs, 1/3 mark is deducted for an incorrect answer. For 2-mark MCQs, 2/3 mark is deducted. Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions do not carry negative marking. Candidates should attempt MCQs carefully to avoid losing marks.
