There is no limit on the number of attempts for the GATE exam. Candidates can appear for the exam as many times as they wish, provided they meet the eligibility criteria at the time of applying. However, since the GATE score is valid for three years, candidates often attempt the exam again to improve their scores for better admission or job opportunities.
