JEMAT (Joint Entrance Management Aptitude Test) is mandatory only for admission to MBA programs offered by colleges affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), formerly known as WBUT, and some other state government-aided institutions. It is not required for IIM Calcutta, IIFT Kolkata, IMI Kolkata, or private/unaided colleges that accept CAT, XAT, MAT, or CMAT scores. However, qualifying in JEMAT can provide access to subsidized tuition fees and state quota seats in participating colleges.
