The 75% criterion is NOT mandatory for appearing in the JEE Main entrance exam. However, it is mandatory for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. To secure a seat in these institutes, a general/OBC/EWS candidate must have secured at least 75% marks in their Class 12 board exam (or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective board). For SC/ST candidates, this qualifying aggregate percentage is relaxed to 65% for admissions.
