Work experience is not mandatory to appear for CAT. Fresh graduates can apply. However, many IIMs award weightage to candidates with relevant work experience (typically up to 36 months) during the final selection stage. Work experience is evaluated based on duration and sometimes quality/type of organization. Academic diversity and gender diversity may also receive additional weightage in some IIMs.
