A ‘good’ CAT percentile depends on the IIM and the category of the candidate. Generally, for top IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta, a percentile of 99+ is considered competitive for General category candidates. For newer IIMs, percentile cut-offs may range between 90–97. Reserved category candidates typically have lower cut-offs as per government norms. However, CAT percentile alone does not guarantee selection, as IIMs also consider academic records, work experience, diversity factors, and performance in WAT, GD, and PI.
