FMGE is currently the screening test for foreign medical graduates who want to practice medicine in India. However, the National Exit Test (NEXT) has been proposed as a common examination that will serve multiple purposes, including acting as the final MBBS exam, a licentiate exam for practicing medicine in India, and the entrance exam for postgraduate medical courses. Once implemented fully, NEXT is expected to replace FMGE as the licensing exam for foreign medical graduates.
