What is the difference between GATE 1-mark and 2-mark questions?

In the GATE exam, questions are either 1 mark or 2 marks each. 1-mark questions usually require shorter calculations or conceptual answers, whereas 2-mark questions often require more detailed calculations or multiple-step reasoning. The negative marking also differs: 1/3 mark deduction for 1-mark MCQs and 2/3 mark deduction for 2-mark MCQs.
