MBA (Master of Business Administration) is a degree awarded by universities or colleges affiliated with a university and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) is a diploma offered by autonomous institutions approved by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). Both programs have similar curricula and industry relevance. However, PGDM programs are often more industry-oriented and flexible in updating content, while MBA programs follow a more standardized university syllabus. From a career perspective, top PGDM programs (e.g., from IIMs, XLRI, SPJIMR) are considered equivalent or even superior to MBA degrees due to their reputation and placement outcomes. PGDM graduates may need to get their diplomas evaluated by AIU (Association of Indian Universities) for equivalence if applying for higher studies or jobs abroad.
