The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level entrance examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India. The exam primarily assesses the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, and arts disciplines. GATE scores are mainly used for admission to postgraduate programs such as M.Tech, ME, MS, and PhD in IITs, IISc, NITs, IIITs, and other institutions. Additionally, many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in India use GATE scores for recruitment of graduate engineers into technical positions. The exam is conducted once a year in computer-based test (CBT) mode across multiple cities in India and a few international locations.
