Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1981, with a view to meet the higher educational needs of a larger locality from Jorhat to Kakojan in the east and up to Neematighat in the north. A few distinguished educationist as well as social workers had taken initiative to convene a public meeting to establish this college. The conveners of the public meeting were:Sjt. Chakreswar BoraSjt Karendra Narayan Baruah Sjt Khitish Ch. Phukan Sjt Khogeswar Dutta Sjt Norendra Nath Dutta Sjt Padma Dhar Kalita Sjt Purna Prasad Dutta Sjt Romesh Ch. Kalita Sjt Uddhab Kakati In the Public meeting, held on 4th July, 1981, at Jorhat Bezbaruah High School, it was unanimously proposed to establish the college styled as JORHAT KENDRIYA MAHAVIDYALAYA. The aims and objective of the college decided by the public meeting are as under- a) To raise the academic and moral aspect of the students in order to build up as as well as mould a national character. b) To raise the socio-economic aspect of the community in the surrounding rural areas.
