Located in Vanijya Mahavidyalaya has attained top position in the field of Commerce education in every span under Patna University. Though firstly it was started in the name of B.Com. classes on December 19, 1953 it was declared in 1954-55 as a full fledged college & the eleventh constituent unit of Patna University in the University budget after covering a journey from Patna Law College to Patna College., It is worthwhile to recall the glorious history of Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, Patna University which was declared a residential University on 2nd January 1952 by promulgating a new Act. After the separation of Bihar University from Patna University in December 1953 Applied Economics & Commerce was left only for the Post Graduate teaching. A very new institution in the name of B.Com. classes was created but due to lack of space and its own building it was started in Patna Law College from 11a.m. to 4p.m. and Principal of the Patna Law College was made Professor-in-charge. Though in the year 1956, the post of Independent Professor-in-charge was created, in March 1957 and it was transferred to Patna College campus from where the work of its development and expansion started. Keeping in view of the demand of commerce education, Pre Commerce Classes and B.Com. Part-I classes were introduced which were later converted into I.Com. and B.Com. classes. In 1961-62 Honours classes were introduced in B.Com. Classes and there was a need of the expansion of a premises for its various extension programmes Later on, in July 1966, it was transferred to the Arts & Commerce Building in the Patna College Campus and the then Principal of Patna College was looking after the college as its Principal., Finally in December 1974, B.Com. classes were given new nomenclature as Vanijya Mahavidyalaya for which administrative and supervisory responsibility was given to the senior most teacher, Dr. Padmadeo Narayan Sharma, B.Sc., (London, School of Economics) who had been continuing since February 1962 to ………. In February 1978, he was appointed as Principal of the college. In the interim period from September 1978 to April 1980, Dr. Brahmanand Prasad looked after the college as Principal of the college, after which again Dr. Padmadeo Narayan Sharma took back the responsibility of the college as Principal., The Vanijya Mahavidyalaya has its glorious history. Its development & nourishment was done in the lap of the Patna College, one of the oldest pioneer institutions in the field of higher education. Commerce students feel glorified in the name of Patna College and who also glorified the institution by their own scholarship and great achievements. Even living in the Patna College Campus, Commerce students have been obtaining high ranks in Academics Examination and Sports regularly.
