Gorelal Mehta College is the only one constituent unit of Purnea University in the Banmankhi subdivision of Purnea district. Since 17th July 1955, this College is arousing the awareness of higher education in this region. Due to the remarkable contribution towards higher education, this College was undertaken as a constituent unit by the then Lalit Narayan Mithila University in 1977. Banmankhi preserves a significant existence/ identity historically and archeologically. The birth place of Guru Maharshi Mehidas and Bhakta Prahlad. Banmankhi is situated at a distance of 35 Km towards west of Purnea. Banmankhi railway station is a junction station of Eastern Railway situated between Purnea junction and Saharsa Junction.
