B.Sc Botany - Basaveshwar Science College

DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY Department of Botany came in to existence when the science wing was bifurcated in 1967, it was there as Biology Department, in 1972-73. Botany was separated as independent department from biology. Since its inception the department is striving its excellence to impart the knowledge of plants science at undergraduate level mainly to the rural folk of the district and near by districts. After bifurcation, the Basaveshwar College, the department of Botany started its work in the present building with well equipped laboratories. We are the first to claim the addition of Tissue Culture Lab to impart the knowledge of plants culture by way of Tissue Culture method in the north Karnataka region. The Department of Botany boasts of motivation and our students got remarkable success in getting. Dr.M.S.Chennaveerah Gold medal in Botany. Continuous efferts of faculty of the department of Botany are always going on for the welfare of the students. We have Bio museum with Algae to Angiosperm botanical specimen and collection of scientists laminated photographs. Botanical garden includes rare plant specimens and also green house to preserve the shade loving rare plants and hardening process
