B.Sc Chemistry With the noble vision of giving higher education in chemistry to the poor and eligible students of this area, the undergraduate course in chemistry was started in the academic year 1963 –’64. Earlier, the subject chemistry was offered at pre–university level. Professor N.S.Krishnasamy was the first head of the department. He was succeeded by Professor N.Venkatesamy. The undergraduate course in chemistry was started during the latter’s tenure and was skillfully conducted by him. Then the mission was successfully continued and carried out by Prof.R.Subramanian who was succeeded by Prof. T.N.Rengarajan. In his entire career, he devoted whole of his time to offer a standard education to the students. He stood as a role model for students. Really, he had inspired the students and the staff of his department. After the retirement of Prof. T. N.Rangarajan, Prof. S.M.S. Sowkat Ali has taken the headship of the department and looks after departmental affairs with the full co-operation of the staff and students. The whole department is working like ‘one man’ in fulfilling the responsibilities and discharging the duties that is the team spirit of the department. The Department is having a well-equipped laboratory. This laboratory itself is sufficient for starting post graduate courses and in pursuing research programmes. The department has placed a request to the management for starting post graduate course in chemistry. This department continuously accomplishes its services to fulfill the vision of our ‘FOUNDER’.
