The department was started with the UG course B.Sc. (Computer Science) in the year 1988-89, PG course M.Sc. (Computer Science) in the year 1997-98 and another UG course BCA in the year 1999-2000.The Department of Computer Science is fully equipped with the state of the art laboratories.Our students are encouraged to participate in various activities like Paper Presentation, Sports Activities and Cultural Activities.We also provide 1 Mbps leased line circuit for internet access round the clock.
B.Sc Computer Science ( Eligibility: A candidate who has passed in Higher Secondary Examination with Mathematics or Business Mathematics or Computer Science or Stastistics (Academic Stream or Vocational Stream ) as one of the subject under HSC board of examination, TamilNadu as per norms set by the Goverment of TamilNadu or an examination accepted as equivalent thereto by the syndicate shell be permitted to appear and qualify for the Bachelor of Computer Science Degree

Department Achievements
Through the association of the department CSNET.COM many seminars has been arranged for the benefits of the students and the staff.
The association has successfully conducted many national level symposium for updating specific techniques and to get pratical exposure.
The department is producing so many medal stars and rank holders of Periyar University every year.
Industrial visit are arranged for the students to give them practical ideas and exposures.
Students are trained for campus interviews separately.
Many students of the department have done their projects in WIPRO, TCS, HCL, HP etc., and they are placed across the globe in the leading multinational software companies such as IBM, MicroSoft, WIPRO, TCS etc..
The department is playing a vital role in the college by providing Internet facility to the entire college round the clock.
The student of the deparment have represented state and university level in many sports events.
The students are permited to attend various In-Plant Training in the reputed companies to explore their knowledge
