Post Graduate Department of Economics
The Department of Economics has been created in 1947 along with the other Departments during creation of Vikram Deb College. After a couple of decades Honours facility in the subject began in 1969. Post Graduate Classes started from1983.As one of the premier institutes of this part of the state, this College is the altar of higher education and learning for many of the knowledge seekers of Orissa and the neighboring states as well .This Department has the rare distinction of producing many learned scholars of national and international repute. Many of the students passing from the Department have risen to different heights in important posts of the State Govt., Central Govt. and private sector also.
The Department has a Seminar, all the students of Honours and PG classes and the faculty members are its members .Seminar meetings are regularly held every week. Students and faculty present research papers discuss on topics on local and national issues and undertake project work on local problems related to the tribal and other backward communities. It also discusses on a variety of topics relating to industrialization, rural employment, inflation, planning, poverty eradication programmes, environmental issues, sustainable development and economic reformations etc.All the teachers of the department take interest in guiding and advising the students in their study, preparation of seminar talks and project works etc. The seminar consists of around 500 books and journals which are used by students as well as the staff members. It has also the facility of overhead projector and computer with internet connection.
