Post Graduate Department of Political Science
The Department of Political Science was established in the year 1947 and was affiliated then to Utkal University. The College was elevated to the status of Degree College in 1961 in Science and 1963 in Arts subjects. Honours teaching was introduced in 1968 in Political Science along with History for the first time in the College. Post graduate class was opened in the subject in the year 1989. Since its inception students not only from the undivided Koraput district but also from the neighboring states of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh (old) and Chhatishgarh pursue their higher studies in this institution. This department renders the valuable services of senior professors who are veterans in the field of Political Science. Counseling and carrier guidance are the important features of this department that is used for the benefit of the students. Performance of the students under Berhampur University in different examinations like graduate and post graduate classes is extremely good. They have earned many ranks in all these years.
The department has a seminar library with around four hundred books and journals of recent publication/editions that cater to the needs of students and teachers alike. Regular weekly seminars are held in the Department for interaction of the students and teachers. Students deliver seminar talks on various national and international topics/issues of local and national political scenario with guidance of esteemed teachers of the department. Discussions are made on topics like Globalization prospects and problems, different aspects of Political Socialization, Role of Public Administration in the Government and Local Governing Bodies. The Department also has conducted a project survey on Panchayat elections 2007.
