DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY Course : M.Sc Biochemistry & B.Sc Biochemistry INCEPTION The Department was started in June 1994, with B.Sc Biochemistry course. In 2004, We have also started the M.Sc course. DURATION M.Sc: Two Years (Four Semesters). B.Sc: Three Years (Six Semesters). ELIGIBILITY M.Sc : A Bachelor’s degree in science with Biochemistry, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Nutrition & Dietitics or Food & Nutrition or Food sciences as the main subject or a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Animal science, Medicine or Veterinary science, including Indian forms of Medicine & Homeopathy of this university or any other qualifications accepted equivalent thereto are eligible. B.Sc: +2 with science group or any equivalence recognized by this University. SPECIALIZATION The Specialization introduced are Enzymology, Molecular Biology, Immunochemistry, Plant Biochemistry, Environmental Biochemistry, Toxicology, Genetic Engineering & Bioinformatics. IMPORTANCE The Two Year M.Sc Biochemistry Course is framed for developing competent Biochemists, who are confident enough to make up various challenging opportunities in Industries & Research & Development. The course is based on interdisciplinary nature of Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology & Biophysics. The programme obliges students to read original research publications & envisages significant inputs in laboratory works, communication skill, creativity, planning, execution & critical evaluation of the scientific data. LAB: The laboratory is very spacious. It has excellent and full fledged facilities with sophisticated instruments like digital colorimeter, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, High speed research centrifuge, Refrigerated Centrifuge, Microscopes, Electrophoretic apparatus & BOD Incubator, etc. This will help the students to develop their skill to higher research levels. LIBRARY: The Departmental library has an excellent collections of text books (around 500) & Journals (around 20),which caters well to the needs of our students. INVITED LECTURES: The Department is inviting distinguished personalities at regular intervals to deliver guest lectures on important topics.
