Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)

The Doctor of Pharmacy (D Pharm) is a six years Pharmacy Doctoral Program in India. The Pharmacy is the art and Science of preparing and dispensing drug and medicines. The pharmacy Council of India (PCI), is the regulatory body of pharmacy education in India, only PCI approved Colleges and Institute can offer Doctor of Pharmacy (D Pharm). The Doctoral / Ph.D. study develops skills and expertise in implementing in inclusionary practices and differentiated instruction techniques to help students with special learning needs.The study improves the knowledge, mental ability and an aptitude to think logically techniques.The study is focused on theoretical and practical aspects of specialized Doctoral educational subjects Like: Modern Analytical Techniques, Pharmaceutical Science, Chemistry of medical Natural Product, Organic Chemistry, Clinical Pharmacotherapeutics and Toxicology.

Eligibility

The candidates have to pass their Higher Secondary (10+2) Education in Science Stream with the minimum aggregate of 50% or an Equivalent Examination, with Biology / Biotechnology as one of the subject such candidates and Diploma of Pharmacy holders are also eligible. Pharmacy Entrance Examination: In some States of India, it is mandatory to give an additional Pharmacy Entrance Examination like BHU B Pharmacy Entrance Examination, GPAT - Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude test, GCET - Goa Common Entrance Test, MHT-CET - Maharashtra Common entrance Test.

Course Duration / Learning Mode

The Doctoral / Ph.D. study course requires 6 years of the time period in India. It's a full-time study program, but some institutes also provide part-time learning facilities. There are a number of recognized Universities Worldwide offering online study program and distance learning option in certain criteria.

Career Option

After obtaining a Pharmacy Degree and Registering with the State pharmacy Council (SPC), one can start their own Pharmacy or Chemist shop to stock and sell medicines.Degree holder has an excellent career opportunity in the field like Health Centers, Hospitals, Chemist Shop, Drug Control Administration, Pharmaceutical Firms, Educational Institutes, Sales and Marketing Department, research Agencies, Food, and Drug Administration. Degree holders recognized as Pharmacist. One can work as, Analytical Chemist, Medical Transcriptionist, Data Manager, Drug Inspector, Customer Officer, Teacher & Lecturer, Regulatory Officer, etc.
