Admission through CAT

UG Degree Programs offered and Eligibility 

  • For B.Tech in Civil Engg, Computer Science & Engg, Electrical & Electronics Engg, Electronics & Communication Engg, Information Technology, Mechanical Engg, and Safety & Fire Engg, B.Tech in Polymer Science & Engineering & Five Year Integrated M.Sc in Photonics
  • Pass in plus-two examination of the state of Kerala or any other exam accepted as equivalent thereto with mathematics, physics and chemistry as optional subjects securing a minimum of 50% marks in mathematics and 50% marks in mathematics, physics and chemistry put together.

For B.Tech in Instrumentation Technology:

  • Pass in plus-two exam of the state of Kerala or any other exam accepted as equivalent thereto with mathematics, physics and chemistry as optional subjects securing a minimum of 60% marks in mathematics, physics and chemistry put together, with at least 55% in mathematics separately.

For B.Tech in Marine Engg (Residential Program) :

  • Pass in plus-two exam of the state of Kerala or any other exam accepted as equivalent thereto with physics, chemistry, mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60% marks & minimum 50% for mathematics alone; candidates should have obtained 50% marks in English at 10th or 12th standards.

For B.Tech in Naval Architecture & Ship Building :

  • Pass in plus-two exam of the state of Kerala or any other exam accepted as equivalent thereto with a First Class (60%) securing a minimum of 50% marks in mathematics as well as for mathematics, physics and chemistry put together.

For 5 Year BBA LL.B (Hons) (Cost sharing) :

  • Pass in Plus 2 exam with 60% marks in Science/Commerce group or 55% marks in Arts/Humanities; ii) Candidates should not have completed 20 years of age on July 1st of the year of admission; 22 years in the case of SC/ST and OBC candidates.

For 5 Year B.Com LL.B (Hons) (Cost sharing)  :

  • Pass in Plus 2 exam with 60% marks in Science group or 55% marks in Commerce/Arts/Humanities; ii) Candidates should not have completed 20 years of age on July 1st of the year of admission. 22 years in the case of SC/ST & OBC candidates.
  • Students who have taken their 10+2 or degree through distance or correspondence method are eligible to apply for BBA LLB and B.Com LLB (Hons), whereas those who passed the course through Open University Scheme without any basic qualifications are ineligible for admission to this course.
  • Note: SC/ST candidates are eligible for admission if they have pass marks in qualifying exam except for B.Tech in Marine Engg; ii) SEBC Candidates are eligible for a 5% relaxation in marks (Under Graduate Programs) except for B.Tech in Marine Engg

Post Graduate Programs offered and Eligibility

For 3 year LLB :

  • Pass in Bachelors degree with not less than 40% marks in the aggregate in any discipline of a University recognized by CUSAT (35% for SC/ST candidates)
  • Candidates who have appeared for the qualifying exam may also apply, in anticipation of results; however, the mark lists obtained in the qualifying exam should be produced at the time of admission; those who fail to produce mark lists will not be considered for admission.
  • LL.M (2 years) – Bachelor’s degree in Law with at least 45% marks.

For LLM (1 year) (with Intellectual Property Rights specialization) :

  • Candidates shall have a bachelor’s degree in law (law degree not mandatory for foreign students) with 55% marks from any of the Universities of Kerala or an exam in any other University accepted by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto, and to have obtained rank in the CAT conducted by the University.

For LLM (IPR), PHD (5-year Integrated Program)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law with 55% from any of the Universities in Kerala or an exam of any other University accepted by the University as equivalent thereto and should have obtained rank in CAT conducted by the University. SC/ST candidates are eligible for concession admissible under the orders of the Govt.

For M.A. Hindi Language & Literature:

  • B.A/B.Sc degree with Hindi as a subject of study with at least 45% marks in Hindi

For MBA (Full-time):

  • Bachelor’s degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate

For MBA (Part-time):

  • Bachelor’s degree in any subject with 50% marks in aggregate;
  • 50% of the seats are reserved for candidates having 3 years of supervisory/executive experience after taking the degree;

For MBA (Travel & Tourism):

  • Bachelor’s degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.

For MBA (International Business):

  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline recognized by the University with 50% marks in aggregate.

For MA Applied Economics:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics with 55% marks in Part III (Economics and Subsidiaries) or 60% marks with B.Com., BBA, BBM with Economics as one of the subject or B.Sc Mathematics or Statistics with 65% marks.

For MCA (Regular and Cost Sharing):

  • Any graduate with mathematics as one of the main or subsidiary subjects or graduate in Electronics /Computer Science/Computer Applications/Engg/Technology with aggregate 55% marks in all subjects other than Languages and Humanities.

For M.Sc Chemistry:

  • B.Sc degree with Chemistry/Polymer Chemistry/Environmental Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry / Petrochemicals (main), with Mathematics as one of the subsidiary subjects with at least 55% marks in the main subject.

For M.Sc Biotechnology:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Life Sciences including Agricultural and Medical Science or Chemical Science or Chemical Engg with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate.

For M.Sc in Biopolymer Science :

  • B.Sc degree with Chemistry as one of the main or subsidiary subjects; the candidate should have passed the qualifying exam with a minimum of 50% marks in the main and subsidiary subjects taken together; the course is conducted by CIPET (Centre for Bio-Polymer Science & Technology, Eloor, Kochi) in collaboration with CUSAT.

For M.Sc Electronic Science (with specialization in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Microwave, Electronics and Computer Technology)

  • First class B.Sc degree with not less than 60% aggregate marks in Electronics or Physics

For M.Sc Environmental Technology

  • Stream I – Environmental Engg. – Graduate in Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries or Graduate in Engg. (Civil/Public Health/Environmental/Chemical) with 55% marks (50% in the case of SC/ST candidates) in optional subjects in the qualifying exam and a valid score in the CAT, conducted by the University
  • Stream II – Environmental Biotechnology – Graduate in Life Sciences/ Environmental Science/ Zoology/ Botany/ Microbiology with 55% marks (50% in the case of SC/ST candidates) in optional subjects in the qualifying exam and a valid score in the CAT exam conducted by the University

For M.Sc Hydrochemistry:

  • B.Sc degree in Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries or B.Sc. degree of any University in Kerala with Polymer Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry/Petrochemicals/Environment & Water Management as the main subject and Mathematics and Physics/Computer Science, as subsidiaries with a minimum of 55% marks in the respective main subject

For M.Sc Industrial Fisheries:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Zoology/Botany/Fisheries with at least 55% marks in the optional subjects. Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries includes Industrial Fisheries/Aquaculture/Fishery Science/Industrial Fish and Fisheries/BFSc in Nautical science

For M.Sc Instrumentation:

  • B.Sc degree in Instrumentation/Physics/Electronics with 60% marks from any recognized University

For M.Sc Marine Biology:

  • B.Sc degree with any branch of Life Sciences such as Aquaculture, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Microbiology and Zoology as a main subject or B.Sc. degree in Fishery Science with at least 55% marks in the optional subjects

For M.Sc Marine Geology:

  • B.Sc degree in Geology /Physics/Chemistry with at least 60% aggregate marks

For M.Sc Marine Geophysics:

  • B.Sc degree in Geology or Physics with Mathematics as one of the subjects and at least 60% aggregate marks

For M.Sc Mathematics:

  • B.Sc degree with Mathematics main, with at least 55% marks for optional subjects taken together.

For M.Sc Meteorology:

  • B.Sc degree with Physics/Mathematics as the main subject with 55% marks. Those with Mathematics as the main subject should have studied Physics as one of the subsidiaries and vice-versa.

For M.Sc Oceanography:

  • B.Sc degree with Physics/Mathematics as the main subject with 55% marks. Those with Mathematics as the main subject should have studied Physics as one of the subsidiaries and vice-versa.

For M.Sc Physics:

  • B.Sc degree with Physics main and Mathematics as subsidiary with at least 55% marks in Physics.

For M.F.Sc Seafood Safety and Trade:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries/Food Technology/Food Science/Microbiology/Biochemistry/ Zoology with at least 55% marks in optional subjects.
  • Candidates should have bachelor’s degree in Fisheries includes Industrial.
  • Fisheries/Aquaculture/Fishery Science/Industrial Fish & Fisheries/B.F.Sc (Nautical Science) Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology/Food Science includes B.Tech/BE/B.Sc in Food Science and Technology/Food Science and Management/Food Science/Food Technology/Food processing Technology/Food Science and Quality Control

For M.Sc Statistics:

  • B.Sc degree in Mathematics or Statistics main with at least 55% marks for optional subjects taken together.

Dual Degree Programs Offered & Eligibility

  • For Master of Intellectual Property (MIP) & Ph.D : Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Economics, Political Science, History, Management and Science & Technology with 55% from any of the Universities in Kerala or an examination of any other University accepted by the University as equivalent thereto and should have obtained rank in CAT conducted by the University

For LL.M (IPR) Ph.D Degree

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law with 55% from any of the Universities in Kerala or an exam of any other. University accepted by the University as equivalent thereto and should have obtained rank in CAT conducted by the University.
  • Admission to M.Tech Programs & Eligibility
  • Admissions to the following M.Tech Programs are based on valid GATE score as prescribed under the academic regulations specific to each program.
  • Candidates not possessing GATE may also apply, but will be considered only if GATE qualified candidates are not available. In such cases, admissions will be based on the DAT conducted by the respective Departments

For M.Tech Atmospheric Science:

  • M.Sc degree or its equivalent in Meteorology, Oceanography, Mathematics, Physics, and Space Physics with a First Class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution;
  • A valid GATE score or a pass in the Joint UGC CSIR Test (NET) for JRF
  • M.Tech Computer Aided Structural Analysis & Design:
  • B.Tech or Equivalent degree in Naval Architecture and Ship building/Civil Engg/Mechanical Engg with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution;
  • A valid GATE score.

M.Tech Computer & Information Science:

  • B.Tech or equivalent degree or AMIETE/AMIE in Computer Science/Information Technology or Electronics and Communication or MCA; with a first class (60% marks) applicable to all the above from any recognized University or Institution;
  • A valid GATE score in the subject Computer Science and Information Technology.

M.Tech Software Engg:

  • B.Tech or equivalent degree or AMIETE/AMIE in Computer Science/Information Technology or Electronics and Communication or MCA; with a first class (60% marks) applicable to all the above from any recognized University or Institution;
  • A valid GATE score in the subject Computer Science and Information Technology
  • M.Tech Computer Science with Specialization in Embedded Systems (Part-Time):
  • First Class B.Tech degree in Computer Science & Engineering / Electronics Engg/Information Technology/Electrical Engg or equivalent branches or MCA with 60% marks or equivalent CGPA;
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Industry/University/Institution recognized by appropriate statutory bodies.

M.Tech Electronics (With specialization in Digital Electronics, Microwave & Radar Electronics):

  • B.Tech or equivalent degree/AMIETE/AMIE in Electronics and Communication Engg/Electrical Engg/Electronics and Instrumentation or M.Sc degree in Electronics/Physics (with Electronics as specialization) with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution.
  • A valid GATE score in Electronics/Electronics and Communication Engineering. 3. If sufficient numbers of candidates are not available in Category 2 above, candidates with GATE score in Instrumentation, Electrical & Electronics Engg., Electrical Engg., or Physics will be considered. In the absence of GATE qualified candidates Non-GATE candidates can be admitted on the basis of DAT.

M.Tech Industrial Catalysis:

  • M.Sc degree in Chemistry/Applied Chemistry or any other degree recognized as equivalent with at least a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution with valid GATE Score.

M Tech Marine Engineering:

  • Shall have passed B.Tech /BE/BS Degree in Marine Engineering or B.Tech/B.Sc (Engg) Degree in Mechanical Engineering or B Tech Degree in Naval Architecture & Ship Building with a minimum of 60% Marks or an Exam of any other University/Institution accepted by this University as Equivalent thereto with 60% marks.
  • For admission to M.Tech Marine Engineering GATE score is not considered.

M.Tech Marine Biotechnology:

  • B.Tech/ BE in Chemical Engg, Biochemical Engg, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Biotechnology, Chemistry/Biotechnology, Biomedical Engg, B.Pharm, Chemical Technology or M.Sc in Biotechnology, Marine Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Botany/ Zoology/Biochemistry, Microbiology/ Genetics, Biophysics, Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics, Marine Biology/Aquatic Biology and Fisheries/Environmental Biotechnology/Mariculture with 60% marks or equivalent CGPA from any recognized Indian or Foreign University.
  • For admission to M.Tech Marine Biotechnology GATE score is not considered. Selection of candidates is done by JNU on behalf of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India.

M.Tech Ocean Technology:

  • M.Sc Degree in Oceanography/Physics/Marine Geology/Meteorology/Marine Geophysics/ Environmental Sciences or M.Sc (Tech) degree in Marine Geophysics or B.Tech or equivalent degree /AMIE in Civil Engg/Environmental Sciences with 60% marks from any recognized University or Institution;
  • A valid GATE score in any of the subjects mentioned above as the second paper

M.Tech Opto-Electronics & Laser Technology:

  • Masters Degree in Physics/Electronics/Photonics/B.Tech or B.E Degree in Electronics and Communication Engg/Electronics Engg/Electrical and Electronics Engg with a First Class (60%) from any recognized University or Institution.
  • A valid GATE score in the concerned branch of study (3) if sufficient numbers of candidates with GATE score in the concerned branch of study are not available, candidates with GATE score in Instrumentation will be considered; if sufficient numbers of GATE score holders are not available, a pass in DAT is sufficient.

M.Tech Polymer Technology:

  • B.Tech or equivalent Degree/AMIE in Polymer Science and Rubber Technology/Chemical Engg/Technology or M.Sc Polymer Chemistry/M.Sc Chemistry with Polymer Chemistry as specialisation with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution with a valid GATE score.

M.Tech. Civil Engineering with specialization in Geotechnical Engg

  • Should have passed B.Tech/B.E/B.Sc Engineering Degree Exam in Civil Engineering with a minimum 60% marks from any University in Kerala or an exam of any other University/Institution accepted by this University as equivalent.
  • In the absence of a sufficient number of candidates with GATE Score, candidates without GATE Score shall also be considered subject to passing an admission test conducted by the University (DAT).

M.Tech Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Thermal Engineering

  • Should have passed B.Tech/B.E/B.Sc Engg Degree Exam in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks from any University in Kerala or an examination of any other University/institution accepted by this University as equivalent.
  • Candidates who have passed sections A and B examinations conducted by the Institution of Engineers (India) – AMIE in Mechanical branch will be eligible.
  • A valid GATE score in Mechanical Engineering.

M.Tech Electronics & Communication Engg with specialization in Wireless Technology

  • Should have passed B.Tech/ B.E/B.Sc Engg Degrees in Electronics or Electrical and Electronics or Electronics & Communication branch with a minimum of 60% marks from any University of Kerala or an Exam of any other University/Institution accepted by this University as equivalent.
  • A valid GATE Score. In the absence of GATE qualified candidates non GATE candidates can be admitted on the basis of a Departmental Admission Test (DAT).

M.Tech Information Technology with specialization in Software Systems

  • Should have passed B.Tech/BE/B.Sc Engg Degrees in Information Technology/Computer Science & Engg/Computer Engg/Biomedical Engg/Electronics & Communication/Electronics/Electrical & Electronics with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 in 10  point scale from any University of Kerala or an Exam of any other University/Institution accepted by this University as equivalent.
  • A valid GATE Score. In the absence of GATE qualified candidates non GATE candidates can be admitted on the basis of a Departmental Admission Test (DAT).

M.Tech Health, Safety & Environment Management :

  • Shall have passed B.Tech/BE/B.Sc Engineering Degree Exam in Chemical /Civil /Mechanical /Safety & Fire Engineering branches with a minimum of 60% marks from any University in Kerala or an Exam of any other University/Institution accepted by the University as equivalent.
  • Candidates who have passed sessions A & B Exams conducted by the Institution of Engineers (India) – AMIE in Chemical/Civil/Mechanical branches or Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers – AMIIChE shall also the eligible.
  • A valid GATE score. In the absence of a sufficient number of candidates with GATE score, candidates without GATE score.
  • Open seats will be allotted on the basis of the score in the Departmental Admission Test, marks obtained in the qualifying exam and experience.

Lateral Entry to B.Tech Third Semester through LET:

  • B.Tech in Civil Engg, Computer Science & Engg, Electrical & Electronics Engg, Electronics & Communication Engg., Information Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Mechanical Engg., Polymer Science & Engineering and Safety & Fire Engg.
  • Any three year Diploma in Engineering/Technology awarded by the Board of Technical Education recognized by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Kerala with not less than 60% marks.

Admission through DAT

Postgraduate Program offered & Eligibility

  • M.A. Translation (German/Russian): Bachelor’s degree of any University recognized by CUSAT and Diploma level knowledge in the language concerned.
  • Diploma /Certificate Programs (Part-Time) courses offered & Eligibility

Certificate courses in French/German/Japanese/Russian:

  • Pass in pre degree / +2 or equivalent thereto of any University recognized by CUSAT. Previous knowledge of the language is not essential.

Integrated Diploma in French/German/Italian/Japanese/ Russian:

  • Pass in +2 or equivalent. Previous knowledge in the language concerned is not essential.

Diploma in French/German/Japanese/Russian:

  • Pass in Pre-Degree/plus- two or equivalent thereto of any University recognized by CUSAT. Previous knowledge of the language is not essential.

PG Diploma in Communicative English:

  • Bachelor’s Degree holders of any University acceptable by CUSAT.

PG Diploma in Translation and Functional Hindi:

  • Bachelor’s degree with Hindi as one of the subjects.

PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Laws:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Economics, Political Science, History, Management and Science & Technology/Engineering.

M.Phil Program (Full-Time) program offered & Eligibility

  • M.Phil Chemistry, Commerce, Hindi, Physics and Mathematics: Master’s degree in the concerned subject with at least 55% marks.
  1. Phil. Applied Economics:
  • Pass in Masters Degree exam in the subject concerned from any of the Universities approved by the UGC or an exam accepted by the Academic Council as equivalent thereto with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks (or equivalent grade) in the exam

M.Phil Marine Chemistry:

  • Master’s Degree in Hydrochemistry, Chemistry or any other branch of Chemistry with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade.

M.Phil Fisheries Science:

  • M.Sc Degree in Industrial Fisheries/Marine Biology/Zoology/Aquatic Biology and Fisheries/Fishery Biology and Aquaculture/Capture and Culture Fisheries/Aquaculture/M.F.Sc/M.Sc Applied Fisheries Processing or any other Post Graduate Degree in Fisheries and Allied subjects/Life Sciences/Biotechnology with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade.

M.Phil Life Sciences:

  • Master’s degree in any branch of Life Sciences with 60% marks

PhD Programs

  • PhD Programs are offered in all the teaching Departments/Schools and recognized Institutions of the University.
  • Candidates are advised to ascertain the areas of research and the availability of vacancies from the Departments/Schools or Recognized Institutions beforehand. Candidates intending to do research in the Recognized Institutions of the University are to obtain application forms from the University Departments/Schools dealing with the discipline of their choice.
  • University Depts/Schools where PhD/M.Phil Programs are offered:

  • The CUSAT will be held in online mode. Candidates can check the information about the exam pattern of all the courses below :
  • Mode of Exam: Computer Based Test (CBT mode)
  • Duration of Exam: The duration of the exam will be 3 hours
  • Type of Question: Objective-type questions
  • Marking Scheme: +3 marks for every correct answer and -1 marks for every incorrect answer

Post Doctoral Fellowship

  • PDF shall be tenable at any Department/ School of the University, open throughout the year. The minimum qualification required for the award of a PDF shall be a recognized Doctoral Degree with at least two research publications in refereed journals
  • PDF are awarded @ Rs 25,000/- per month towards fellowship amount along with an annual Contingency Grant of Rs.20,000/-
  • The maximum age for applying for Post-Doctoral Fellowship is limited to 45 years; research experience after the award of PhD only will be considered for PDF
  • To apply for PDF, the candidate shall identify a Mentor who shall be a permanent Faculty of the University, holding a Doctoral Degree and shall be a recognized Research Guide of the University and prepare a Research Project Proposal in consultation with the Mentor in the specific format provided by the University and submit the same to the Head/Director of the Department/School after authentication by the Mentor.
  • PDF shall be awarded for a maximum period of three years based on yearly performance appraisal.

Exam Cities

Exam Test Centres

  • For PG Programs, BBA, LLB (Hons), B.Com, LLB (Hons), MIP., PhD, LLM, PhD, 3 year LLB & Lateral Entry Tests: The CAT/LET will be conducted at all the district headquarters of Kerala.
  • The DATs are conducted in the University campus by the individual Depts/Schools/Centres of the University. The respective Departments will announce the dates of these tests separately.

Counselling

The Counselling of CUSAT CAT is expected to be held in the 2nd week of July. The counselling will be done only for the qualified candidates. The selected candidates will require registering online and submit their option entry. After logging in, candidates will have to download their CUSAT CAT counselling letter. No individual call letter / communication will be sent by post to the candidates.

Participating Institutes
