Society Registration Act 1860 (Punjab Amdmt.) 1957 Registration No.4163 1969-70) & maintained by the Governing Body & UGC Grants., Lady Irwin College is a premiere institution affiliated to University of Delhi for undergraduate and postgraduate education in Home Science institution affiliated university of delhi. It also supports doctoral programs in five areas of Home Science. Other programmes are two year B.Ed. (for students of Home Science), B.Ed Special Education(MR)(For students from all streams) and one year Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics & Public Health Nutrition., It aims for holistic development of women students, and their capacity building through carefully designed academic programmes and extramural activities., The Lady Irwin College aphorism is VIDYA HI SEWA. The teaching learning transactions true to the motto Endeavour to inculcate a sense of knowledge to serve through carefully designed outreach experiences., The College has always provided headship to other institutions in the nation in teaching, research and extension in Home Science, both at central universities and Home Science colleges with agricultural institutions., Lady Irwin College has celebrated 83 years in 2015.The education in this college aims towards capacity building for entrepreneurship, improved quality of life and overall development of the students. It is a nodal and template institution for Home Science education in the country., The academic disciplines in the college are artistic, creative, culturally rooted and contemporary. The programmes are scientifically planned which include education in textile technology, food processing, metabolism, environment, sustainable technologies, food safety, health and disease and human development. The focus of college is to have holistic education for the all round development of the students., High standard of education is maintained in pedagogical strategies and course structuring by the faculty members. The curriculum is internationally competitive. The college hopes to improve the talent and nurture creativity among its students for playing positive role in the society., Lady Irwin College is a constituent college of the University of Delhi and is the first Home Science College of India. Established, with the motto of Vidya Hi Sewa, on November 11th, 1932 under the patronage of the then Vicereine, Lady Dorothy Irwin. The college has a glorious history. Among its founding mentors were eminent national and international leaders such as Annie Besant, Sarojini Naidu, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Kamala Devi Chattopadhyay, Sir Ganga Ram Kaula, the Maharani of Baroda, Maharani of Bhopal, and Margaret Cousins., Since its inception, Lady Irwin College, has pioneered the discipline of Home Science and has remained in the forefront of the academic map of India. The college offers Bachelors in Home Science, Ph.D. and Masters Programmes in five areas - Food and Nutrition, Human Development & Childhood Studies, Fabric & Apparel Science, Development Communication & Extension and Resource Management & Design Application. The college also offers PG degree in Education - B.Ed. ( Home Sc.) and B.Ed. Special Education (MR) and a PG Diploma in Dietetics and Public Health Nutrition (DDPHN). The B.Sc. Home Science Honours and General Programmes were restructured as per the Choice Based Credit System, and were introduced in 2015. The B.Sc. (Hons.) Food Technology programme was launched in July 2017., A large part of the college is housed in heritage structures. The college infrastructure and facilities are continuously being upgraded to renovate and build new facilities. The college has well-equipped laboratories and classrooms with projection facilities. The renovated well-stocked college library is fully computerized providing access to national and international online databases. The centralized computer centre, one of the first of Delhi University maintains internet connectivity and is a key resource for computer based learning. The Equal Opportunity Cell provides assistance to students with disabilities in their coursework and during examinations. Large sections of the college have been made disabled-friendly. The pioneering RAK Child study centre, provides a range of innovative facilities for the care, education and development of children., The college has a well-qualified and dynamic faculty that regularly upgrades itself to enrich teaching, research and outreach processes / initiatives. Many have received national and international recognition for their work. Several faculty members are engaged with apex educational bodies, serve as consultants and resource persons for governmental and non-governmental organisations and often invited to lead research projects by eminent organizations., To remain abreast with changing academic and industry environments and increase the skill sets of students, the departments have instituted special public lectures, held annually. Workshops, seminars, and conferences are also held periodically and public outreach activities are organized in collaboration with the industry, government and non-government organisations and research bodies., The college has been able to establish international linkages through MoUs with Michigan State University, Syracuse University, University of Winchester and Portland State University that have led to cross border faculty, student interactions and exchange programs.
