EIILM University, Jorethang DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY & ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES Biotech & Environmental Science Department campus of EIILM Sikkim University in India is situated at a calm and serene location in the foothills of highly revered Himalayas of Kanchenjungha, the third highest mountain peak in the world, in the State of Sikkim. It forays into emerging field of Biotechnology & Environment Science where knowledge of the international environment and understanding is disseminated. It is uniquely designed and developed with the objective of providing aesthetic learning atmosphere and is a hub of multi-tiered learning processes consisting of class room sessions, workshops, lectures, illustrative talks, group work & group discussions, demonstrations, in-hand practices, seminars, conferences, individual & group presentations, invitation of lectures & counseling from eminent persons, exposure visits & sharing of experiences. Thus, its education system is based on the foundation of progressive academic principles, and carries the heritage of pioneering higher education in this part of the globe based on international models. And, more so, the Biotechnology & Environmental Science courses are drawn to give students an opportunity to apply their intelligence, creativity, innovations and leadership skills to the challenges of the technology driven world. The past five decades have witnessed major development in the field of biotechnology and it will take major advancement in days ahead where the Biotechnology Industry will expand exponentially and create great employment opportunities, and EIILMU aims at catering to that needs of opportunities. The Department focuses on not just imparting knowledge but develop skills and competencies of our students to face the upcoming challenges. The course and curriculum is set in such a way that they can tune with the growing biotechnology educational opportunities. It adopts a free & student-centric teaching approach using most up-to-date course materials and gadgets followed with constant monitoring and necessary follow up. Class works, assignments and group discussions are the integral components of the teaching system and these also serve for the purpose of evaluation of students' performance & evaluate their assignments. It is a new and growing department in the EIILM University with lot of future prospects and tremendous potentialities ahead.
