Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission to the PhD program at IIT Jammu, candidates must fulfill one of the following criteria:
- Possess a Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master’s degree by Research in Engineering/Technology with a good academic record.
- Hold a Master’s degree in Science with a good academic record, along with a valid GATE score / UGC/CSIR-JRF/GPAT/NBHM or equivalent qualification in the relevant area applicable for the year of registration.
- Candidates from NITs/IITs/IIITs/IISERs/IISc may be exempted under specific schemes as agreed by the IIT Council.
- Have a valid GATE score in the eligible discipline.
Reservation
- The reservation of seats in admissions for SC, ST, OBC, EWS categories and for Persons with Disability (PwD) will be as per Government of India rules
Application Process
- Candidates need to register and fill the application online only by accessing the website erp.iitjammu.ac.in/phdapplication
Other Important Instructions:
- Candidates are advised to carefully read all the instructions provided in this Information Brochure before applying online.
- Candidates are requested to apply online only. Hard copies of the application need not be submitted, as physical applications will not be considered.
- The prescribed qualifications and experience are the minimum requirements. Mere possession of these qualifications and experience will not automatically entitle a candidate to be called for an interview.
Application Fee:
- Application Fee per department (non-refundable): Rs. 300 (INR) for foreign nationals.
- Candidates can deposit the requisite application fee using net banking or debit/credit card facilities. Additional charges will be applicable as per the rules of the concerned bank. The fee will not be accepted through any other mode.
Admission Procedure:
- Admission to the mentioned course will be conducted through a counseling process.
- Candidates will be called for counseling based on merit.
General Guidelines:
- Applicants will be invited to an online portal on the Institute website https://iitjammu.ac.in.
- The applicant must submit a copy of their passport, documents related to educational qualifications, and Statement of Purpose (SOP) along with the application form.
- The departmental committee will shortlist the applicants and inform the shortlisted candidates, inviting them for an interview process. This interview process may be conducted online.
- Once selected, the candidate will receive an offer letter containing fellowship details.
- The candidate must apply for an appropriate VISA in time. Assistance related to VISA will be provided by the International Relations Office of IIT Jammu. Candidates must follow the guidelines issued by the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) and complete the registration process.
- International students need to arrange for their medical insurance for the duration of their stay at the Institute.
- An International student can transfer previously earned credits from any Institute other than IIT Jammu, as per IIT Jammu’s credit transfer policy.
Fellowship and Accommodation:
- Maximum tenure of the fellowship: 5 years.
- Foreign students will receive fellowships at the same rate as Indian students by the respective funding agency. Presently, the stipend per month is INR 37,000/- for the initial 2 years and INR 42,000/- from the 3rd year onwards (based on performance review after 2 years).
- Annual contingency grant at par with Indian students.
- Annual travel support to attend conferences and workshops at par with Indian students.
- International students are advised to obtain travel/medical insurance for full medical coverage while traveling.
