Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to the PhD program must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Completion of a 1-year/2-semester master’s degree program after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program, or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree program after a 3-year bachelor’s degree program. Alternatively, qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body are also accepted.
  2. Minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks may be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories as per the decision of the Commission.
  3. Candidates with a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade. A relaxation of 5% marks may be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories as per the decision of the Commission.
  4. Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. program with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade are also eligible for admission to the PhD program. A relaxation of 5% marks may be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories as per the decision of the Commission.

Selection Process

The University may admit students through an Entrance Test conducted at the University level. The Entrance Test syllabus shall consist of 50% research methodology and 50% subject-specific topics.

The structure of the Entrance Test is as follows:

  • Paper 1: Research Methodology, consisting of 35 multiple-choice questions with no negative marking.
  • Paper 2: Subject Specific Paper, consisting of 35 multiple-choice questions with no negative marking. The syllabus for this paper is based on the UGC NET/CSIR Paper-II syllabus. If the UGC NET/CSIR syllabus is not available for a subject, the concerned Department/Chairman of the Board of Study will prepare the syllabus.

All candidates who are not exempted from the Entrance Test must appear in person. Exempted students are also required to fill the Ph.D. form.

To be eligible for the interview (DRC), students must secure at least 50% marks in the entrance test. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Differently-Abled category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories as per the decision of the Commission.

Based on the number of Ph.D. seats available, six candidates will be called in each category for an interview (DRC) against one vacant seat.

The selection of candidates will be based on a weightage of 70% for the entrance test and 30% for the performance in the interview/viva-voce (DRC).

Entrance Exempted

The University may admit students who qualify for fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar national-level tests. Selection of these candidates will be based on academic performance and interview/viva-voce performance, with a weightage of 70% for academic performance and 30% for interview/viva-voce performance.
