Civil engineering is an engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. It s one of the oldest branches of engineering. Civil engineers possess qualification in civil engineering. The duration of study is three to five years, and the completed degree is designated as a bachelor of engineering (or a bachelor of science). The course curriculum includes physics, mathematics, project management, design and specific topics in civil engineering. General civil engineers work with surveyors and specialized civil engineers for designing grading, drainage, pavement, water supply, sewer service,dams, electric and communications supply. Civil engineers apply the knowledge of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, environmental engineering, transportation engineering and construction engineering for construction of residential, commercial, industrial and public works projects.
