Marine engineering is the engineering of boats, ships, oil rigs and any other marine vessel or structure. Marine engineer applies engineering sciences with other sciences from mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, and computer science, to the development, design, operation and maintenance of watercraft propulsion and oceanographic technology, power and propulsion plants, machinery, piping, automation and control systems etc. for surface ships, submarines etc. Marine engineers looks towards the main propulsion plant, steering, anchoring, cargo handling, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical power generation and electrical power distribution, interior and exterior communication, and other requirements. A marine engineer is a person who is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of all major mechanical and engineered equipments on the ship.
