Era University, Lucknow Department of Pulmonary Academic Activities Monday: Seminar Tuesday: Case presentation Wednesday: Writing topic Thursday: Discussion on the interesting topic Friday: Journal Club Saturday: Lecture by Faculty The academic activities are supervised & held under the guidance of faculty members. In addition to the above CMEs are conducted once in 2-3 months. Diagnostic & Treatment Facilities A fully equipped DOTS center is running under the department as per the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme DOTS. The center caters to the Anti Tuberculosis Drugs to the patients for free. The DOTS Centre has been judged as the best functioning DOTS Centre among all the Centers in UP. Spirometry available with the department is useful for diagnosing and treating obstructive, restrictive lung diseases, and upper airway obstruction. It is also useful in evaluating preoperative cases. Flexible Fiber Optic video. A bronchoscope is a telescopic device that visualizes the large airways and allows diagnostic and or therapeutic intervention. The bronchoscope has a facility for teaching the Post Graduate students as well. BIPAP machine is available in the ICU. This machine provides Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation in patients who require ventilatory support. Noninvasive means of delivering ventilation is a novel device which reduces the patient stay and prevents complications related to an invasive ventilator. Invasive Mechanical Ventilator is available in the ICU. The invasive ventilators are indicated in patients with respiratory failure, where noninvasive ventilators have failed or the patient is unconscious. Nebulizer Machine is available for delivering nebulized inhaled drugs to patients suffering from Airway diseases. Arterial Blood Gas Analyzer Machine is available in the ICU. This machine is useful for determining arterial Oxygen-Carbon Dioxide level in patients suffering from acute or chronic respiratory diseases. A full-fledged Polysomnography for diagnosis and management of snoring, sleep apnoea & other sleep-related disorders is also available. Smoking Cessation Clinic for preventing diseases like COPD. Pulmonary Rehabilitation for chronic lung diseases. Determination of diffusion capacity of Lung for CO (DLCO). A full-fledged Allergy Clinic for diagnosis of various Respiratory Allergic Disorders. Research Activities Diagnostic value of PCR in sputum for patients of Pulmonary Tuberculosis. Clinico Radiological Comparison of Pulmonary Tuberculosis with and without Diabetes Mellitus. Smoking Habits of Patients and their Attendants coming to the OPD. Bronchial Asthma and Allergy Rhinitis coexisting prevalence and effect of treatment on each other. Publishing paper is the top priority of the department after patient care and academics.
