The inception of Ramananda College in 1945 was the beginning of providing higher education to the otherwise marginalized youths of this locality. The “Temple Town” Bishnupur, a Sub-Divisional Head Quarter is endowed so far with this only co-educational Degree College, which has been serving for more than half a century as the Alma Mater of thousands of students coming from rural Bengal.

Bankura Unnayani Institute of Engineering, established in 1998, is a Government supported Engineering College in the district of Bankura. Late Jyoti Basu, the then honorable Chief Minister, Government of West Bengal inaugurated this degree Engineering Institute on 19th September, 1998. Gobinda Prasad Mahavidyalaya was established in 1985 to pay homage to the sacred memory of Late Gobinda Prasad Singha, an eminent freedom fighter and social worker of Bankura District, with a noble purpose of extending higher education among the poor and backward people of the locality.The college was granted temporary affiliation by the University of Burdwan on 20.09.1985 which approved its permanent affiliation on 30.08.1988.

Saltora Netaji Centenary College, established in 2001, is the general degree college in Saltora, Bankura district. It offers undergraduate courses in arts. It is affiliated with Bankura University.

Patrasayer Mahavidyalaya is a grant-in-aid college of West Bengal and is recognized under section 2 f and 12B by the UGC. The college was established in 2005 at Patrasayer in the district of Bankura. Despite lack of proper communication facility, drinking water, power supply and many other minimum required infrastructural facilities, the zeal and eagerness of some people to educate the most deprived and backward class of this area gave birth to this college.

B.S. Medical College was established in 1956 by Bankura Sammilani Trust. The college was taken over by Government of West Bengal in 1961. MCI recognition for 100 MBBS seats was finally recognized in December 2005. Post graduate courses in General Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatric Medicine and Gynae & Obstetrics were permitted by MCI in March, 2009.

Onda Thana Mahavidyalaya, Murakata was established to promot the higher education in this region.
