The Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education, Kariavattom, Thiruvananthapuram which bears the name of Lakshmibai, Rani of Jhansi, the most resolute, patriotic and illustrious heroine of the First War of Independence, came into existence on 17th August, 1985 under the auspices of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

The University has 16 Faculties and 40 Departments of study and research .

The Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram formed in 1875 is one of the oldest institution imparting legal education in India. Affiliated to the Faculty of Law of University of Kerala, the college is supervised and controlled by the Government of Kerala and was ranked as the 23rd best law college in India in 2007 by INDIA TODAY.

G.KARUNAKARAN MEMORIAL CO-OPERATIVE COLLEGE OF MANAGEMENT & TECHNOLOGY was established by the G. Karunakaran Memorial Educational Society, Sopanam Complex, Peroorkada P O, Thiruvananthapuram, Pin 695005. The Society was set up in the year 2007 with the objective of promoting professional education. The society was promoted by philanthropists and academicians who have got the zeal to promote management education in the state.

Cooperative Institute of Management and Technology (CIMAT) at Thiruvananthapuram stands out distinct among the scores of institutions offering MBA course in the State.
