The existing Ayurvedic Institutions in Vidarbha Region could not offer adequate seats for many candidates interested in Ayurved. So in 1989-90 the Government of Maharashtra granted permission to start Bhausaheb Mulak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya and Hospital (B.M.A.M.) on no grant basis. The B.M.A.M. is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nasik and is approved by Government of Maharashtra, Bombay. It is also approved by Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) New Delhi.

Indira Gandhi Government Medical College & Hospital (IGGMCH) established in the year 1905 is located on Central Avenue, near the city railway station in Nagpur, run by the Government of Maharashtra. Nagpur City has the history of 300 years plus when it was the capital of Gond Rajas Buland Shah Baksh. Nagpur was one of the major centre with capital even during British regime. The present Mayo Hospital came into existence in 1862 and was known as "City Hospital". A medical school was started in 1914 in that hospital and was under Nagpur Education Board. It was named after Mr.Robertson the then Joint Commissioner of Central Province. School was conducting L.M.P. Diploma Course.
