Ranchi University was established on july12, 1960, with ten post graduate departments, one constituent college (Ranchi College, Ranchi), and 20 affiliated college spread over an area of 65,000 square kilometer.

उत्तरी कर्णपुरा श्रमिक महाविद्दालय, डकरा, राँची जिला के सूदूरवर्ती ग्रामीण एरिया डकरा में अवस्थित है साथ ही यह अनुसूचित जाती, अनुसूचित जाति बाहुल्य है ! यहाँ सी सी एल द्वारा कोयले के खनन का कार्य होता है जिसके वृहत पैमाने पर श्रमिक खनन कार्य में लगे हुए हैं ! इन श्रमिको के बच्चो को उच्च शिक्चा ग्रहण करने के लिए यहाँ से 40 की मी दुरी पर एकमात्र माण्डर महाविद्दालय, माण्डर अवस्थित है तथा दूसरा 70 कीo मीo दुरी अवस्थित है !

Ranchi College is one of the oldest constituent units of Ranchi University. Since its modest beginning as an Intermediate College, Ranchi College has made great strides in the last eight decades, and is now one of the most respected institutions of higher learning in Jharkhand. Doranda College, Ranchi established in 1962 by the local philanthropist to offer holistic education in order to equip its graduates for fast diversifying world. Established in 1972, Ram Lakhan Singh Yadav College is a constituent unit of Ranchi University. The name of the college is in honour of the then Honorable Minister of Education, Late Ram Lakhan Singh Yadav of undivided Bihar, whose vision was to educate underprivileged group of society through opening Schools & Colleges in every district of the State.
