The College was established on 16th July 1946 as the College of Engineering, Visakhapatnam situated at Kakinada. It was later named as the Government College of Engineering, Kakinada. After being initially affiliated to the University of Madras and later to the Andhra University, it became a constituent College of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University at the time of its formation on 2nd October 1972.
