Located in Dev Samaj College Lahore for girls, Ambala city is an institution of high repute having carved a niche for itself with academic and curricular achievements of unrivalled standards. ‘Dev Samaj College’ was founded by “Bhagwan DEV ATMA” in 1934 in lahore. It was re-established at Ambala city in 1948, at that time it was the only girls college in the whole Ambala division. Since then the college has completed 86 years of its service towards the noble cause of higher education for girls. The college has earned the name and fame in multi dimensional areas i.e academics, co-curricular activities. Above all the institutions tries to inculcate the good moral value among its students. The institutions work not only to impart good education but also work for the all round developments of its students today our alumni are placed in different fields such as education, legal service, administrative services, banking, corporative etc, It was rightly said by a scholar “We want the Education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded and by which one can stand on its feet.” . Bhagwan Devatma, the most worshipful founder of Dev Samaj, established ‘Dev Samaj’ in 1887. He felt that there was a great shortcoming in our education system that it does not emphasise on character building. The training of mind and heart should go hand in hand. With this point of view, he established many Institutions in Northern part of India., After the partition in 1947, some of the institutions moved to Moga, Firozpur, and Ambala. Dev Samaj College for girls, which was established by Revered Bhagwan Devatma in Lahore in 1934, also moved to Ambala City in 1948. In the beginning ,it was started in a few rooms of Sadhna Mandir of Ambala City, which was situated in the heart of the city and in the vicinity of railway station and bus stand of the city. It was a new venture of Dev Samaj in the field of education. When this college started, there was not even a single College for girls in the whole Ambala Division. This status of college remained unchanged for a long time., The main objective of this college has been all round development of the students i.e. physical, mental, spiritual and emotional development. Our Institution also lays emphasis on character building of its students along with acquiring knowledge. The Motto of the college “Acquire Knowledge and Form Character” also justifies it. Not only this, the college also prepares its students for their future endeavours. Our Sub Motto “Come to Learn ,Go to Serve” reflects this ., Since its establishment, the college has not only imparted education to a number of girl students and shown excellence in results but also brought about a great change in their lives too. It has helped the students to set high goals and work hard to achieve them., The founding principal of Dev Samaj College is Sh. Prem Bal Khera. After him, Many more prominent personalities graced the chair of principal. Presently Mrs.Anita Sharma is working as a principal of this esteemed institution since November,2019., Phenomenal success of the College can be attributed to the loyal assistance and healthy cooperation of well qualified, hard working and sincere staff members, who are always at the disposal of their students., Dev Samaj college for girls has been the oldest and one of the most premier Colleges in the field of girls’ education for the last 86 years 1934-2020. When it was established, girls from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh used to come here to get education; Now a days plenty of colleges have been opened by the government in different cities, but still we have many girl students from the rural areas of Punjab and Haryana., The college was affiliated with Punjab University from 1953 to 1974. Later on , in 1974 it got affiliated with Kurukshetra University Kurukshetra. In the early days, we had many courses in our college in addition to B A i.e. Hindi Ratan, Bhushan and Prabhakar, Gyani, JBT and B.Ed, but with the passing time, due to some internal problems, all of the above mentioned additional courses could not be continued. Now we have bi-faculity in our college i.e . B.A. and B.Com., Ours was the first college in Haryana to provide hostel facilities for girl students. Apart from Haryana, girls from Punjab and even from Himachal Pradesh used to avail our hostel facilities., Dev Samaj college grooms the girl students to become courageous to face challenges and even odd situations of life. The Institute not only provides its students knowledge to become self confident and self Reliant , but also makes them capable to develop there individual identity in the society., From 1948 till date, we have been working hard to gain rare, unique and special achievements in different fields and are still thriving to achieve many more in future., We are fortunate enough for being guided by the most dedicated guiding force of Dev Samaj Council : Respected Shriman Nirmal Singh Ji Dhillon, Secretary ,Dev Samaj Council, Shriman J C Bhardwaj Chairman, College managing Committee,Dr. Agnese Dhillon educationist, Dev Samaj college Managing committee and other respected members of the Managing Committee of Dev Samaj College. Under their able guidance and visionary direction, the College will definitely touch the pinnacle of glory ., The college is spread over an area of 15720 square metres with a lush green , well designed and beautiful campus. We have well equipped Computer, Music vocal, Music Instruemental, Home Science and Sports lab. It has a one of its kind, three storied library building, which has a large collection of books on different subjects, journals and a host of old and rare books. Class rooms are spacious, ventilated and well furnished. College Hall has a capacity of 600 students with attached green rooms. The college has a Common room and Canteen facility as well. We are planning to have a smart class room in the near future., The Alumnus of this college feel proud of their alma mater. Our alumnus are serving the society in different capacities i.e. lawyer,Judge, professor, Civil servant , Banker etc ., Our excellence in Academics, Cultural Activities, Sports,NCC,NSS etc. have created mile stones and have touched the horizon. Our staff works hard to achieve best results. Many students of our college have secured top merit position in Kurukshetra University. We have achieved excellence, not only in academics, but also in co-curricular activities. Our college has been awarded four times “Best Girls college Trophy” in Zonal youth festival of Ambala Zone. Our students participate in different Literary competitions, such as Declamation, poetry, slogan writing, Essay writing , Caption writing etc and bring laurels for the institution. We have a glorious past in sports as well. Our volleyball and Basketball team won KUK championship continuously for seven years. The best athlete of our college, Sudha Bhasin, represented Ambala in Haryana State Sports Festival., Since its establishment, many dignitaries have visited our Institution. It was a proud moment for our college when our students presented their cultural program in the presence of our first Prime Minister Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru. Former CM Ch. Bansilal Ch. Bhajan Lal, Architect of Rock Garden Sh. Nek Chand , Governer of Haryana Sh.B N Chakraborty,Sh. S M H Burney , Chief Secretary of CM Sh. Rajesh Khullar and many more High ranking officials are also amongst the Distinguished guests who graced our Functions as Chief guests.
