Integral University, Lucknow Currently headed by Dr. S.Z.H. Abidi, who retired from Lucknow University as Professor and Head, Department of English and Modern European Languages, after a distinguished service of 40 years, and now Dean Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Head, Department of Languages, which has been the part and parcel of Integral University from its very inception. Its twin foci are Professional Communication and English Language, Grammar and Soft Skills as also ESP. The Department of Languages offers degrees at PhD, MA level (MA in English) as well as Certificate and Diploma Courses in German, French, Arabic and Persian. Programs Offered : The Department offers courses on the English Language, Grammar and Soft Skills (EL), Professional Communication (PC), Professional Communication Lab, and Pre-Placement Preparation (PPP) to BCA, B.Tech., B. Pharm, B.Sc. and MCA. The department also runs MA in English, Ph.D. Programme in English Literature and Language and Certificate and Diploma Courses in German, French, Arabic and Persian Research & Development : At present eight research scholars are working under the supervision of Prof. (Dr.) S.Z.H. Abidi. Their areas of research include American literature, African literature, Indian literature in English, Afro-American literature, etc. Besides working hard to complete their research and produce their groundbreaking findings, they also actively participate and present papers in national and international conferences and also publish papers in high-end journals. Infrastructure : Language Lab : The department has a well-equipped state-of-the-art language lab that provides Computer-Aided Language Learning (CALL) to the Engineering students. The language lab is equipped with ODLL software. It has also the provision of audio-visual aids which are employed by the faculty to show educational videos to the students concerned. Library : The department has a full-fledged library with a large collection of books on Professional/ Business Communication, Grammar and Proficiency in English. News/Events : Events like Debate Competition/ Just a Minute, etc. are organized by the department from time to time to keep the students in tune with the fast changing English language savvy world. They are also trained, informed and assisted to take part in the events taking place in other institutions as this provides them a good exposure.
