About Department of Management Studies
The Department of Management Studies at Jammu University was established in 1964 to offer one year Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Management. Another job oriented one year Post-Graduate Diploma in Office Management & Secretarial Practices was introduced a decade later. In 1986, the department widened its perspectives from diploma to a degree level. It has consistently upgraded its programmes and standards which are reflected in the dedication of its members and performance of its students. It is one of the fastest emerging management institutions. The department is committed to produce competent professionals who are dynamic and responsible enough to assume offices in various managerial and administrative cadres. Students from all over the country benefit from this course learn to channelise their efforts in the right direction and put up concentrated efforts which are well organised and implemented to give practical dimension to the theoretical aspects in the foundation of management.Management club is an integral part of the department. This club has student representatives and is governed by student members only. They are engaged in activities pertaining to management and organization of seminars, discussions, presentations, etc. The management club publishes one quarterly house magazine called Sameeksha covering the proceedings of the various activities of the clubs. Apart from this the department subscribes to the various national and international journals/magazines to keep up with the latest published literature. The department undertakes consultancy work, while consultancy services are offered to different organizations both in public and private sector. Some projects running are:
The department is presently participating in the project "CULTURAL INFLUENCES ON LEADERSHIP AND ORGANISATIONS" a 60 nation study of the organizations and their leaders, CEOs. This project is running in collaboration with Wharton Business School, USA and coordinated by IIM Indore in India.
