The Department of Computer Applications was established in the year 1997, offering Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme. The programme was initially affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University and later to Anna University. In addition, the department also offers M.Sc., (Computer Technology), Ph.D from the year 2007 and M.Tech (Computer Applications) from the year 2008. The MCA programme is a three year full time programme covering various aspects of computing, accounting, programming, design & managing networks and database that an individual may pursue before foraying into the world of Information Technology (IT).

Infrastructure :
The objectives of the department are to innovative the areas of Computer Applications, to advance and enhance commercial application and visual application development, to build interest in students for specialized research in inventing new data base design and to guide students in the building efficient information systems, to create new data base engines; and to create new Query languages. Based on these objectives, the laboratories of the department are well equipped with many modern facilities. The department has the following 3 laboratories with 121 systems with high configuration. The laboratories are well connected with internet facilities and the students are allowed to work in the laboratories round the clock.
Department Library :
The department has its own library with more than 1200 books in various area of computer science and applications such as Data Structures & Computer Algorithms, Programming Language, Data Mining, Image Processing, and Operating Systems Such as UNIX, Window 2000 and Digital Electronics, Compiler Design, Microprocessor, Programming Languages such C, C++, JAVA and competitive exam books like GRE, TOFEL, NET and GATE & etc., and is intended for the faculty as well as students for immediate reference.
