The Department of Mechanical Engineering, being one of the oldest departments of the institute, provides its students effective teaching-learning process and state-of-the-art laboratories. The department offers B.Tech degree programme in Mechanical Engineering. It also offers M.Tech degree programmes in CAD/CAM, Energy Engineering and Industrial Safety Engineering. The curriculum is highly demanding and attracts exceptionally meritorious students from all parts of the country. The department is constantly striving to attain excellence in education, teaching, academic and industry oriented research as well as consultancy work with service to the society.

There is an independent library and a reading room in the department which caters to the needs of the students and faculty. The department library has internet browsing facility to accesses online journals. There are 1500 books in its collection in different areas of mechanical engineering. There are also 22 hard copy and 104 e-journals subscribed and received by the department. The students are allowed to visit the library during their library period and after the class hours.
