Since its inception in 1996, the department is making efforts to collect all kinds of manuscripts and protect them to know our past. The activity involves four stages:
=> Collecting the Manuscripts
=> Editing
=> Studying and
=> Publishing.
Now the department has plans to digitalize the present and also the future collection. The department has in its collection more than 3,000 valuable manuscripts written in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marati and Sanskrit. The collection includes valuable works like Nannis Bharata Halayudha Stora, Kumara Sambhava, Shivadhikya Ratnavli, and interpretation of Magha Kavya.
This department has a collection of over 2000 different manuscripts and the process of digitization of all the manuscripts is going on by this we can get the copy of manuscripts in form of CD's and in human readable format.
