It was founded in 1980 by the Sri Adichunchanagiri Maha Samsthana Math. This college was started under the University of Mysore , Four Year Scheme (FYS), which was later in 1989 called as the Revised Four Year Scheme (RFYS). In 1991 This college was affiliated to Kuvempu University. AIT College's present Principal is Dr. C K Subbaraya. AIT college is accredited by the National Board of Accredition, The Institute is located in the famous Chickmagalur city which is 240 kms from Bangalore, capital of Karnataka and well connected by bus routes to all the major cities and towns of the state.
