Located in The College of Fisheries, Panangad a constituent college of the Kerala Agricultural University is the only institution in the fisheries sector in the State imparting an undergraduate professional degree programme. It is one of the 14 Fisheries Colleges in the country. It is located at Panangad, 10 km away from Cochin . The College was established in 1979 The college campus having a total area of about 30 ha. has been developed steadily with necessary infrastructure facilities., MISSION AND GOALS, MISSION, To develop the college as the foremost center of learning, research and transfer of technology in fisheries in India and to make it one of the internationally reputed colleges., GOALS, Development of the fisheries sector of the State and the country., Augmentation of fish production., The COF, Kochi forming the nucleus for the establishment of a Fisheries University in the State to undertake and co-ordinate action programmes in teaching, research and extension in fisheries., Development of the sector to the fullest potential so that it occupies a pivotal position in the economy of the State and the country., Evolve new and cost-effective technologies for product development so as to ensure value addition and consumer preference for fishery products., PLAN OF ACTION, Producing professionally and technically competent personnel to cater to the needs of the fast developing fisheries sector of the State and the country., Developing entrepreneurship among the fishery graduates by imparting hands on training and giving opportunities to develop management skills through Work Experience Programme., To further the research and extension activities in the field of fishery science by undertaking research in frontier areas and by promoting interdisciplinary/ inter-departmental/ inter-institutional co-operation., Provide employment opportunities for the people especially fisherfolk by imparting training on production of value-added fishery products, ornamental fish culture, hatchery production of seeds of various cultivable fin and shell fishes and their farming., Provide consultancy services so as to put into practice the technologies developed among the entrepreneurs and generate income for the institution., Consultancy, The College has developed adequate competency for offering consultancy in the areas of prawn seed production, feed formulation, fish and shell fish farming, ornamental fish culture, post harvest processing and identification of shellfishes and fin fishes. The consultancy work of setting up of a freshwater prawn hatchery of 30 million capacity in Karnataka under the Department of Fisheries of Karnataka Government and another consultancy for setting up of scampi hatchery has also been taken up in the State of Gujarat ., Collaborative programme with other institutions, The College has already established strong linkages with other institutes, viz., Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical Engineering Technology, Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Central Institute of Brackish water Aquaculture, Central Institute of Fisheries Education, National Institute of Oceanography, State Fisheries Department, Matsyafed, Agency for Development of Aquaculture, Kerala, Kerala Forest Research Institute, Department of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, University of Kerala, School of Marine Sciences, CUSAT, Department of Applied Life Sciences, M.G.University and with the Fisheries Colleges of other States., Academy Of Tropical Aquatic Sciences, The registered society with its head quarters at the College of Fisheries, Panangad, Kochi, India, Objectives:, Providing a forum for tropical Aquatic Scientists and Technologist to meet periodically for discussion, exchange of information, findings and experience on different aspects of Aquatic Sciences and Technology., Encouraging original investigation on problems related to Aquatic Sciences and Technology., Bringing out journals and other publications in the field of tropical aquatic Science & Technology., Instituting awards in recognition of outstanding contributions to the advancement of Tropical Aquatic Sciences & Technology., Undertaking such other activities consistent with the aim of the society, as decided by the governing body, from time to time, Membership shall be open to all, individuals or institutions, interested in Tropical Aquatic Sciences & Technology.
