Academic Staff College
The Academic Staff College was sanctioned by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi in October 1987 under the New Education Policy, 1986. It was initially started in Octobet 1987 as a part of the University Teaching Department of Education. Academic Staff College, Indore was created as an interuniversity institute academic(ASC) department of the university with the appointment of regular faculty in 1989. Since then, it has been working as a full fledged department and regularly organizing courses for University/College Lecturers. These courses are mandatory for promotion to next higher grade. Madhya Pradesh Government has committed to take over ASC positons once the UGC grant ceases. At present 100% grant is provided by UGC, NewDelhi. In terms of performance, the college has earned reputation as one of the leading institutions in India and stands first among three ASC's in M.P. The Academic Staff College has been established to organize training courses for inservice University/College lecturers in order to provide them oppurtunities for professional and career growth with an aim to improve the higher education in the country. Refresher courses are organized with the help of concerned departments. 6. The following subjects have been allocated for Refreasher courses during the year 1998-99:-Life Sciences -Physics -Comparative Language & Culture -Computer Applications -Education -Economics ., UGC has also identified ASC, Indore for organizing refresher courses in Environmental Education. Two courses will be organized in Environmental Education. -Need based courses in Reasearch Methodology and Mathematics Research work is carried out on areas related to ASC such as evaluation of the programmes, Training needs, etc. In addition the ASC teachers are also engaged in research in their own fields., ASC Indore has so far organized 169 courss in which teachers of all M.P. Universities as well as other Universities in the country have participated. ASC Indore stands among top ASC's out of 45 ASC's functioning in the country. In the years 1990, 1993, and 1997, Indore ASC was visited by the UGC Review Committee for ASC's, who were highly satisfied withits performance.
