Located in Shri Neelkantheshwar Government Post Graduate College was originally established as a private institution named Shree Neelkantheshwar College in 1948 at Khandwa in the state of Madhya Pradesh. This Town though small has always been socially, culturally, literally and politically alive. The concept of public participation in governance is now being promoted under a new cover, but the idea is not new. This college was founded by eminent persons of the town such as Shri BaijNath Baheti and well known Hindi poet Shri Makhanlal Chaturvedi who not only motivated the people but also donated library. The land where the college campus is located had been donated by Shri Baheti along with the main building. The college never looked back and has been making progress in various aspects., The main building which now houses the Principal’s office, Library, Office, Staff room, stores and class rooms could provide accommodation only for the arts faculty and thus a new building was constructed which accommodates the post graduate departments of science and commerce faculties. Thereafter recently a new building with 10 rooms and 4 Halls have also been added to fulfill the requirements of increasing students., Dr. Mukesh Jain is the principal of the college and the number of faculty is adequate for growing number of students and for fulfilling the demands created by changing syllabi. They are selected by M.P. Public service Commission through written test and interview according to UGC norms. The teachers do have sense of attachment towards the institution and feel proud at any achievement of the institution after contributing their shares. This attitude is reflected in initiating 6-7 new subjects at the under graduate level., The new subjects are sponsored by UGC under the vocationalisation scheme and by the public under the self finance scheme. A JanBhagidari Samiti established with a purpose of sharing the burden of management of the Government and a focus on local requirements is very active. Many new goals have been achieved only through it., The participation of the students in running the college is ensured through fair and highly competitive elections. The students also have a teacher as a guardian, which ensures individual attention to them. All the students have free access to each and every member of the faculty through various committees for different purposes. Their impressionable minds receive a value-based inspiration. A swami Vivekananda career guidance cell is run by efficient teachers with a right aptitude. No student is denied any guidance for his career. Every possible help is rendered to him for appearing in competitive examination etc. The students of this college have made a mark in various disciplines such as administration, industry and have brought name to the institution.
